Neurodevelopmental Assessments - Autism Spectrum Disorders

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how individuals perceive and interact with the world. People on the autism spectrum may experience challenges in communication, social skills, and repetitive or restrictive behaviours.

Autism is a spectrum, meaning it affects individuals differently, and our assessments at CodeBehaviour are designed to capture these unique presentations. Our autism assessments follow a structured, multi-disciplinary approach, ensuring thorough evaluation for individuals across age ranges. We use gold-standard tools such as the ADOS-2 and ADI-R to assess communication, social interaction, and restrictive behaviours.

ASD Assessment Services @Code Behaviour

Our autism assessments follow a structured, multi-disciplinary approach, ensuring thorough evaluation for individuals across age ranges. We use gold-standard tools such as the ADOS-2 and ADI-R to assess communication, social interaction, and restrictive behaviours. Following the autism assessment, we’ll provide you with a comprehensive outcome report, based on NHS and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) standards. The entire end-to-end process for our private autism assessment usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks.

There are several different stages as part of your ASD assessment process:
1. Pre-assessment Questionnaires: We will send you different questionnaires to complete. Information gathered from questionnaires is reviewed and analysed by our clinical team before the assessment.

2. Developmental Clinical History & Presenting Issues Assessment: Our clinicians will then complete a face to face or video call with you to gather information on the development, behaviour, skills and clinical history. The call systematically covers the person's developmental, medical and educational history and captures early and current observations.

3. Autism Specific Assessments:
We use the "Gold standard" assessment tools the ADOS-2, and ADI-R. which are diagnostic tools used by our neurodevelopmental specialists. ADOS-2 is a present state observation assessment. You will do some tasks together and answer some questions but there are no right or wrong answers and it is not a test. The ADI-R stands for Autism Diagnostic Interview- Revised (ADI-R) and is a structured interview carried out by our neurodevelopmental specialists who are trained in administering this tool. The interview usually takes place with a parent or someone else who knows the person well.

4. Observational Interview:
Our clinician will arrange a convenient time and day for an online video session with you and your child (if the assessment involves your child). The clinician will ask you (and the child/young person if the assessment is about one) questions relating to various skills. The clinician will also ask you (and your child) about additional topics such as sleep, mental health and behaviour. In addition to gathering information from you (and your child), the clinician will make observations on how you (your child) presents during the session.

5. Feedback and Report: After the assessment sessions, the clinician will agree on an appropriate outcome based on all the information and evidence from all components of the assessment as well as the diagnostic criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders - 5th Ed. (DSM-5)

The clinician will arrange an appointment with you (face to face or online) to give the outcome, provide a summary of the overall assessment and provide suggestions for appropriate strategies or interventions that may be beneficial. This appointment is typically 45-60 minutes.
