Neurodevelopmental Assessments - ADD/ADHD
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition, which is commonly characterised by signs of hyperactivity, inattentiveness, impulsivity or a combination of all three behaviours. The symptoms of ADHD in children are usually traits, that are therefore always present and not episodic. You may notice these traits becoming more prominent in certain situations, for example when doing schoolwork or during play time. If the symptoms are consistent, then an ADHD assessment is the right step to take.
There are several different stages as part of your ADHD assessment process:
1. Pre-assessment Questionnaires: We will send you some different questionnaires to complete in terms of clinical/developmental history, strengths and challenges. For children assessments, we will also send out a questionnaire to your child’s educational setting for your child’s class teacher, SENCo or teaching assistant to complete. Information gathered from questionnaires is reviewed and analysed by our clinical team before your child’s assessment.
2. Developmental History & Presenting Issues Assessment: Our clinicians will then complete a face to face or video call with you (or child’s parent or carer for children assessments) to gather information on the development, behaviour, and skills since birth. The call systematically covers developmental, medical, clinical and educational history and captures early and current presenting issues. This appointment usually takes 90 minutes.
3. Neuropsychological/Psychometric Assessments: Neuropsychological tests are specialised tests that assess various cognitive functions, such as attention, memory, executive function, and processing speed. Neuropsychological tests are useful in psychological testing for ADHD because they can provide information about the underlying neurocognitive processes that may contribute to ADHD symptoms. These subtests can provide valuable information for understanding the specific executive functioning deficits that may be contributing to ADHD symptoms and inform the development of appropriate interventions and accommodations.
4. Observational Interview: Our clinician will arrange a convenient time and day for an online video session using Microsoft Teams with you (and your child - for children assessments). The clinician will ask you (and the child/young person) questions relating to various daily living elements and focus on ADHD characteristics. The clinician will also ask you (and your child) about additional topics such as sleep, mental health and their behaviour.
5. Feedback and Report: After the assessment sessions, the clinician will agree on an appropriate outcome based on all the information and evidence from all components of the assessment as well as the diagnostic criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders - 5th Ed. (DSM-5).
Different assessment options include:
Consultation Only: For individuals with previous assessment reports and potential previous diagnoses (90 minutes)
Qb Check: We offer Qb Check, a computerised test as suggested by NICE guidelines, which is designed to offer objective data for identifying ADHD symptoms. All you need for the test is a compatible laptop (Macbook or PC laptop) with a webcam and a mid-range or higher processor. The fee for a Qb check testing is £175 per test. This also involves a 30 minute consultation with one of our clinicians over a video call

As part of the assessment, the consultant may also explore other co-occurring conditions such as conduct disorder, Anxiety, Depression and/or other disorders
